Country cinema is a kind of prism: it intercepts and refracts interpretations of past and present social phenomena. To do this, some films, especially those dealing with historical themes, use biography. They use a character's character to tell a story. This character relives or narrates historical events by retelling or recalling a life story or personal experience. The personal memories or life story connect with the audience in a way that a documentary cannot. This is especially true when the character is a 'member' of the same nation as members of the audience. In this case, collective memory creates a kind of national identity and sense of continuity for the audience, which is closely linked to the emotions associated with nationalism. This study focuses on the study of contemporary French cinema within the framework of visual studies. The main idea of visual studies is that the interpretation of works of visual culture is as important as the study of the social, political and cultural features of its functioning. This paper aims at deciphering certain socio-cultural foundations on which the relationship between the protagonists of French cinema is built. It will allow us to discover the implicit codes that define the specific characteristics of contemporary French society. By examining the overlap between the public sphere and the private sphere - and vice versa - we will see how certain processes of assimilation and reproduction of a culture are arranged.
