The graduate qualification work is devoted to the study of the poetics of the portrayal of Henry Vandergood, the protagonist of the novel "Satan's Diary" by L.N. Andreev. The name, prototype, occupation of Henry Vandergood, as well as Satan's goals and Satan's perception of the world around him and the significance of the image of Rome have been considered not only in the context of the plot, but also from the viewpoint of literary tradition.
