On September 17, 2019 Stefanie Börner (University of Magdeburg, Germany) will speak on 'Transnational social rights and disparate mobilities in the European Union'. The event is organised by the HSE School of Sociology as part the International Seminar Series in Sociology.

Abstract:

As political and economic union, the European Union gives strong emphasis to spatial mobility. Combining the studies on social inequality and European integration the talk focuses the ambivalences of this affinity for mobility. Theoretically spoken, European integration and the rights linked to it affects all citizens in the European Union, however, from an inequality perspective these processes do not favour all citizens to the same degree.**Within the European Union, this leads to diverging dynamics of how people transnationalize and an increased level of social inequality.

Date and time: Tuesday, September 17th, 18:15 p.m.

Place: 11 Myasnitskaya ulitsa, room 424
