The Iron Egg awarding ceremony has taken place at Sunlight Studio Hall club in Moscow. The prize is awarded to HSE students for their extracurricular initiatives.
The Iron Egg award was founded by HSE students in 2004 and is similar to the Golden HSE award. The competition highlights the student projects which are considered the most topical, important and noteworthy by students themselves.
The winners are selected in two stages. Firstly, a ‘grand jury’ consisting of representatives of HSE student associations selects the three best projects in each of the categories. The second stage involves online voting and is open to all HSE students. This year the contest included five categories.
Internet Project of the Year: The Vyshka
This is an online lifestyle newspaper for students and graduates who are motivated by personal fulfillment and professional success. The project already involves more than 80 students from various faculties of the university. Earlier this year, The Vyshka took first place as the best website at the 12th National Student Media Competition ‘Crystal Arrow’, and third place at the 4th National Communication Project Competition ‘Eventiada Awards’.
Intellectual Project of the Year: Keystone
Keystone is the largest nonprofit financial association of HSE alumni in Moscow. It offers banks, investment trusts, and big companies service packages that promote the employer’s brand among students and young professionals. The project team has organized over 70 events (master classes, business games, lectures etc), over 30 recruitment campaigns, and employed over 50 HSE graduates and students in partner vacancies.
Public Event Project of the Year: HSE RUN
The project founders organize educational open air runs for those who already know Moscow and want to know it even better. The first quest around the capital’s landmarks took place as part of the Iron Egg PR campaign in 2011. Then the contest attracted several dozen teams. A year later it became an independent project and is now held twice a year.
Achievement of the Year: HSE KVN Team
This joint team was created from two university teams, The Hedgehog and High Voltage, in February 2014. And this year it entered the popular KVN Premier League on television, after winning the KVN Champions’ Cup in January 2015 in Sochi.
Special Project of the Year: Best Buddies
Best Buddies help people with developmental disabilities enlarge their social circle, start living independently, and, most importantly, find real friends. And for the students, this is an opportunity to become part of an international movement, to develop their organizational skills, and to make our society more tolerant to people with mental disabilities.
The Iron Egg award not only finds and gives prizes to teams that have realized their ideas, but also attracts new supporters to them. ‘Recently we celebrated the anniversary of our university’s foundation. It turned 23, and I think that you can feel proud that you are related to HSE,’ said HSE Academic Supervisor Evgeny Yasin in his video address to the ceremony participants. ‘I, myself, am very proud of it. I’m also very proud that I know many of you. I read your papers with huge interest and I’m happy to say that they are full of smart thoughts. Congratulations and good luck!’
