HSE Partnership Programmes: Not Only Student Exchange

The Erasmus+ project isn’t limited just to student exchanges between partner universities - teachers and university administration can also take part in this academic mobility. In April 2018, Italian colleagues from Viterbo University (Italy) came to HSE Nizhny Novgorod, and a couple of months later, a large group of HSE lecturers and administrative staff from Nizhny Novgorod visited Italy in return.

The goal of the trip was to strengthen and expand the partnership between HSE Nizhny Novgorod and Viterbo University. HSE lecturers participated in two academic seminars (‘Analysis of Modern Tools in Economic and Managerial Studies’ and ‘Advances in Mathematics, Engineering and Computer Sciences’), and also met their Italian colleagues involved in implementing the double degree programme for master’s students in Marketing and Audit and Consulting.

Stefano Ubertini, Director of the Department of Economics, Engineering, Society and Business Organization at Viterbo University was enthusiastic about the prospects for further cooperation during the visit of the Russian delegation. Colleagues discussed opportunities for partnership development and launching new educational tracks in linguistics. The HSE delegation, especially lecturers from the Faculty of Humanities, were impressed by the speeches delivered by representatives of the Demidov Foundation (Florence) about the cultural heritage of one of the most famous families of Russian manufacturers and philanthropists in Italy.

HSE master’s students at Viterbo University defended their second theses, marking the culmination of the first year of the project.

Alexandra Dubovik (Master's programme in Finance):

‘Last October we came to Viterbo as students of the double degree programme. These ten months were a very busy period, when we studied, attended lectures, participated in projects, passed exams, prepared dissertations and practiced Italian and English. We also learned more about this beautiful country – we met new people, tasted local cuisine, immersed ourselves in the culture, and traveled a lot. Our study in Italy culminated in the successful defense of our master's theses, which is considered an event similar to a graduation ceremony, something you want to celebrate with your family and friends.’

The University of Viterbo is one of the priority partners of HSE Nizhny Novgorod, and the visit of the HSE delegation is a good result of the first year of the project. The second year of work means further partnership development, new ideas, new initiatives, and new project participants.
