Schedule of Classes, Exams, and Retakes
The schedule is compiled on the basis of the annually approved academic calendar, which determines the structure of the academic year, including the duration of modules, the timing of assessments, retakes, and holiday periods for all degree programmes and cohorts at HSE University.
Most HSE University students study six days a week, from Monday to Saturday. Class schedule may vary depending on the faculty, degree programme, year of study, and mode of study.

When the Schedule Is Published
Courses: Published in accordance with the Regulations on the Planning, Approval and Publication of Class Schedule for each academic year.
Examinations: Made available no later than one week before the start of the examination period, in line with the academic calendar.
Retakes*: For full-time students, the dates of retakes are scheduled by the programme manager twice a year. Retakes are only held after the end of the examination periods for Modules 2 and 4. They must be completed no later than 15 February (to clear academic failures acquired during Modules 1–2) and 15 October (Modules 3–4).
The retake timetable is communicated to students with academic failures no later than three days before the date of the first retake.
* Exception: If a course includes mandatory blocking assessment components and no examination is scheduled during the examination period (or if 10 calendar days or fewer remain before the examination period begins), the first resit takes place before the start of the examination period in the form of a repeated attempt at those assessments.
Where to Find the Class Schedule
By Academic Group:
● On the website of your degree programme, in the "Timetable" section, which shows all courses included in the individual curricula of each student within the academic group.
● On the e-timetabling system RUZ website (accessible only within the HSE University local network).
Personal Timetable:
● In SmartPoint Account (ELK), under the "Timetable" section.
● On the e-timetabling system RUZ website (accessible only from the HSE University local network).
● In HSE App X, available on App Store and Google Play. The app allows you to:
- Search for classes by lecturer or academic group.
- See the building location where a class will take place.
- Export classes directly to your personal calendar.
In Case of a Scheduling Conflict
Curriculum Courses:
There is an option to either transfer to another group for the same course, or—if only one group is available—replace an elective course with another that fits better with personal schedule. To learn more about the options, contact the manager of your degree programme.
Exams During the Examination Period:
If there is more than one exam scheduled on the same day (including retakes of blocking assessments within the 10 days leading up to the examination period), two options are available:
-
Take multiple exams on the same day, as long as there is no overlap (note that you cannot appeal the exam process in this case), or
-
No later than three days before the start of the exam period, submit a request to reschedule one of the exams.
Retakes:
Submit a request to reschedule a retake no later than three days before the retake period begins (according to the academic calendar).
How to Report an Issue
If any classes are missing, some course schedules are not shown, or links to online classes are not available in any of the resources, contact your programme office—contact details are available on the programme's webpage.
If you experience technical issues with the RUZ system or have suggestions for improvements, please email: ruz@hse.ru.
