Course Syllabus

Abstract

The course discusses professional, social, and scientific research ethics, the article and book publication processes, the academic job market. Furthermore, topics, like PhD-supervision, presenting of research results, and the peer-review-process will be in the focus of discussions. Parallel to that, students will improve the implementation of research designs into their MA thesis proposals.

  • To get students familiar with the full cycle of paper and thesis preparation
  • To get students familiar with the major requirements of academia: the rules, ethics and standards of research

  • Students understand and follow research rules and ethics
  • Students are able to effectively prepare a reference list for a scientific paper
  • Students are able to formulate research questions and to find literature for practice-oriented studies
  • Students are able to write a draft of a research paper in order to prepare a scientific publication
  • Students understand the procedure of peer review of a scientific paper
  • Students understand the major principles of scientific approach
  • Students know a process of dissertation preparation and can apply it while preparing term paper and thesis
