‘A Week of Academic and Intellectual Pleasure’: HSE Hosts April Conference for the Twentieth Time

On April 9, the XX April International Academic Conference on Economic and Social Development kicked off at HSE University. Since its inception, it has become Russia’s biggest academic and expert platform in the social sciences and economics, as well as an important international event that attracts researchers from all over the globe each year. Fuad Aleskerov and Andrey Yakovlev, members of the Conference Programme Committee, spoke with the HSE News Service about the results achieved over the past 20 years, relevant topics, and plans for the future.

The HSE School of Business Informatics implements the Management and Digital Innovation programme jointly with the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). The programme gives students a unique opportunity to receive two full-fledged diplomas - the Russian BSc degree in Business Informatics, as well as the UK BSc degree in Management and Digital Innovation (MDI).

On June 29, the third graduation ceremony for the double-degree Master’s programme in Big Data Systems (HSE, Russia) and Information Systems Management (UAS Technikum Wien, Austria) was hosted at the Austrian Ambassador’s Residence in Moscow. Dr. Hartmut Koller-Lenhardt, Chancellor at the Embassy of Austria in Moscow, gave the opening address. He congratulated the graduates on their successful completion of the programme and stressed the importance of cooperation between the universities in regards to cultural and professional communication and connections.

Major League Hacking (MLH) holds its events around the world, but this year is the first time MLH Local Hack Day is taking place in Russia thanks to the initiative of students from the Higher School of Economics. HSE School of Business Informatics has joined with Hogeschool Rotterdam to launch a new type of project work for undergraduate students. Three student teams will be involved in developing real information systems for Dutch companies from February to May.

Big Data: Prospects for Russian-French Cooperation in Science and Technology

Participants of the ‘Big Data Applications’ research workshop, which took place in the beginning of December, discussed big data and prospects for Russian-French cooperation in this area. The workshop, held at HSE, brought together about 50 participants from leading research centres, universities, governmental bodies and IT companies in both Russia and France.

On June 27, 2016, the first graduation ceremony for the double-degree Master’s programme in Big Data Systems and Information Systems Management was held at the Higher School of Economics in Moscow. The ceremony marks three years of successful collaboration between HSE and University of Applied Sciences Technikum Wien.

French Delegation Visits School of Business Informatics to Discuss Cooperation in Big Data Studies

In March 2016, the School of Business Informatics (Faculty of Business and Management) at HSE was visited by a delegation from France’s University of Évry; in late 2015, a student exchange agreement was signed between HSE and this university. The delegation brought 19 students from the Master’s programmes in the field of big data at the University of Évry to Moscow.

‘Making It to This Forum Is Already an Incredible Feat’

For the first time ever, a doctoral student of the Higher School of Economics took part in the Heidelberg Laureate Forum, the world’s largest forum for young researchers in the fields of mathematics and computer science. Over the course of one week, the participants were able to meet and discuss their projects with laureates of awards such as the Fields Medal, Abel Prize, and Turing Award. Olga Tsukanova represented HSE at the Forum, bringing with her a project on mathematical modelling.

Students on the ‘Information Security Management’ Programme Get Training in China’s Huawei

Students studying for an MA in ‘Information Security Management’, Katerina Arinarkina, Eldar Beibutov, Evgeny Gusev, Nina Osenmuk, and Aminat Tarchokova, under the supervision of teacher Petr Baranov, have completed training courses with Huawei as part of the international ‘Seeds for the Future’ programme. The two-week course focused on studying contemporary information-communication technology, the principles of protecting information while working with it, experience of ensuring information security in a corporation that has a global network of subsidiaries.

How to Teach Business Informatics

20 October, 2014, was a special day for the business informatics community in Russia. The International conference ‘Enterprise value management using subject-oriented BPM’ opened the annual assembly of the business informatics Education and Methodology Union (EMU) hosted by the Higher School of Economics.

HSE roundtable at the Istanbul UN Internet Governance Forum 2014

This year at the annual UN Internet Governance Forum, IGF in Istanbul, besides the HSE professors and usual dignitaries, Alexandra Permyakova, a Master’s student on the Electronic Business programme at the Faculty of Business Informatics got the chance to go along and take part in the Forum. The HSE delegation organised a roundtable discussion on Empowering displaced people and migrants through online education services.

New English-language Master's Programme in Big Data Systems

This year, the HSE Faculty of Business Informatics is launching an English-language master's programme in Big Data Systems. Scholarships are available, particularly for selected applicants who participate in the Olympiad, a competition that is open to students and graduates of university undergraduate and specialist courses from throughout Russia, the CIS, and the Baltic countries. The registration deadline for the Olympiad is March 12, 2014.

American Practices for Russian Innovations

In early June a HSE delegation visited the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Arizona, Tucson. The host universities are partners of the HSE in the Innovative Infrastructure Development Programme.

GMC: the HSE Team Takes 5th Place in the Final Competition

Global Management Challenge 2011, an international championship in company management has finished in Macao, where about thirty teams from national qualifying championships took part.
