Course Syllabus
Abstract
Virtual and immersive elements are step by step becoming a storytelling tool in moderm multimedia. The fundamental idea of immersive journalism is to allow the participant, typically represented as a digital avatar, to actually enter a virtually recreated scenario representing the news story. The course surveys current approaches to immersive journalism and the theoretical background
Learning Objectives
- The goal of the discipline is to give students an idea about virtual, augmented and mixed reality
- The participants will be able to grasp all the storytelling and technical features of the course. Special attention will be paid to the use of panoramic video content
Expected Learning Outcomes
- Be able to operate the gadgets of VR/AR
- Be able to plan the stages of the production
- Be able to set the correct goals for the filming crew
- Be able to use of the mobile content in the process
- Be able to apply the communication and operational skills for the process
Course Contents
- ABC of Panoramic VideocontentVR Systems. Instruments for 360 TV. Selection for the point of filming. Use of panoramic sound and 3D Graphics
- ABC of Augmented RealityAR Technology, its applications and limitations. How to set up the AR app
- ABC of Virtual RealityHistory of VR and its definition. VR-gadgets and their potential. Computer modelling and types of VR. 3D Graphics. Classification of VR technology. The spheres of use for VR. Tasks: questions about key augmented reality terms, planning the strategy for any VR project
- Software and instrumentsHow to interact with the use in VR and AR modes. How to read the gestures of the user. Interactive software
Interim Assessment
- Interim assessment (4 module)0.15 * Attendance + 0.7 * Final project + 0.15 * Work at the seminars
