Course Syllabus

Abstract

The program gives students an idea about different views on culture, aspects of its production and consumption, changes of cultural and creative industries in modern society. The course examines both theoretical basis for the development of creative industries and an extensive amount of case studies that allows students to trace the origin, evolution and prospects of creative industries at global, regional, national and local levels. Course topics include issues related to the process of cultural production, cultural policy, provides students with opportunities to explore and analyze the interaction of culture, business and politics.

  • Seminar 9-10. Discussion of student’s business ideas and reflection on business model task

    Task 2. Business model comprehension In this task a student have two options: He/she can take their own business idea and apply the Zott-Amit business model framework to demonstrate how their idea can create cultural and/or creative value. If a student doesn’t have any business ideas in mind, he/she can take any company/project/start-up that belongs to creative industry sector and analyze it in accordance with the Zott-Amit business model framework to demonstrate how company/project/start-up creates cultural and/or creative value. The essay should cover the following points: Introduction with explanation of a business idea OR brief general information about the company/project/start-up and reasons why it is creative; Analysis of business idea OR company/project/start-up using four Zott-Amit business model elements (Novelty, Lock-In, Complementarities, Efficiency); Conclusion about the company’s value creation: how business idea can potentially create cultural and/or creative value to its customers OR how company/project/start-up already creates cultural and/or creative value. The essay should be 1-1,5 page length, Times New Roman, 14, margins are standard

    Task 1. Essay: creative industry and company To choose the company that belongs to one of the creative industries. Following the classifications and definitions of the creative industries to explain the reasons that prove that the company belongs to the sector, describe the products and its creative content, economic value and market objectives. Stress attention to intellectual property of the produced goods. The essay should cover the following points: proven reasons that the company belongs to the sector (3 points max); set of products and the explanation of its economic value (3 points max); symbolic and intellectual value of the product (3 points max); structure and execution (formatting) (1 point max).
