Course Syllabus
Abstract
This course will equip the students with the skills necessary to become effective, and creative, language teachers, ready to work in various teaching contexts with various types of learners. This course focuses on practical aspects of language teaching, specifically teaching the four main language skills (reading, writing, speaking and listening) and language systems (vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation and functions). The students will also design effective tasks and practice learning situations. The course will look at strategies to check meaning and correct errors and will survey project-based learning and peer learning. Working with young learners, adolescents and adult learners, individually and in groups, will also be covered.

- 1. To acquire essential subject knowledge and familiarity with the principles of effective English teaching; 2. To acquire a range of practical skills for teaching English to various language groups 3. To develop critical thinking in relation to various teaching situations 4. to improve academic presentation skills

Assessment Elements
- Classroom participation/homework/peer review - 15%The students will receive points for participating in class and for completing homework and forum tasks. These tasks vary, and assessment varies depending on the task. You will receive specific task instructions and assessment criteria for each task.

- A case analysis/A course assessment scheme - 7,5%
- Designing a learning project - 10 %
- Plan an extra-curricular event – 10%
- Peer Teaching and Language Analysis– 10%
- Quizzes– 10%You will complete a series of test and quizzes during lectures. They will be based on the material we will study in the lectures. These quizzes will normally be given at the end of the lecture or at the beginning of the next lecture.
- Forum participation (reflection on video observations)– 7.5%
- Teaching Portfolio – 20% - examThe task: The teaching portfolio is the final project of the course. This is also the qualifying project towards receiving a micro-degree ‘Language Education Specialist’. This project is aimed at demonstrating the skills necessary for a language education specialist (either an English tutor/teacher working with a ready curriculum, or a program manager/administrator). The portfolio should include all the required items and may include optional items.
