Today the mobile market is one of the fastest growing service industries in the world. Communication services are common in daily life for the majority of consumers and mobile phones are usually attributed to essential things. In Russia mobile telecommunications are not only a kind of business but also an important component of economic development. However, despite the strong internal potential of the industry, the global financial crisis has serious negative impact on the development of the market. In this situation strategic decisions based on a comprehensive analysis of the industry play an important role. This research is devoted to statistical analysis of the mobile market in Russia. First of all, author investigated current development level of the market, including the level of development of the mobile market in comparison with other countries of the world, as well as market position of major operating companies in Russia. Furthermore, several models with good predictive abilities were built. To reflect and predict the level of mobile penetration rate author has used Razroev model. And in order to get an idea about the main trends of the market, such as data service revenue growth, classical trend-seasonal model with seasonal differences and model with dummy variables were used, so that increase in income from value added services could be reflected. Author also tested the hypothesis of a substantial effect of the federal district on mobile penetration rate and studied other factors that could potentially influence the penetration rate in the federal subjects of the Russian Federation. It was found that there are three main groups of factors: level of infocommunication technology usage, demand for telecommunications services and level of economic development of the subject.
