The Red Army soldiers in the Europe: social and cultural aspects (1944-1945)

Student: Khokhryakova Ol`ga

Supervisor: Oleg Budnitskii

Faculty: Faculty of History

Educational Programme: Master

Year of Graduation: 2014

<div>The graduation work of Olga Khokhryakova considers the social and cultural collision between soviet people of the 1930-1940s and unknown for them Europe with its own traditions and particularities. Soviet people stepped out from USSR and had an opportunity to see the West during the Great Patriotic war for the first time. In that graduation work the author makes an attempt to emphasize special features of soviet people that can become obvious while analyzing the memories of soviet soldiers about the West: how they characterize the way of life, cities, people, culture, what they remember. That work also touches the theme of revenge and violence against civilians that has become popular recently among historians. The author uses interviews with veterans, memoirs and diaries to find answers to the questions.</div>
