This work is the first attempt to analyze the relationship between personal characteristics and his or her tendency to take a risk using a large Russian survey. The work is focused on the responses of people on the question about their willingness to take the risk. I found that the gender difference and age play a big role in the propensity to take the risk. In addition, this work includes a comparison of the results with those obtained on the German data in order to make sure that risk determinants can be considered universal. The second part contains analysis of the link between risk and self-employment. Research results show that risk plays significant and positive role in the choice to be an entrepreneur.
