Price Effects of Parallel Imports on the Example of the Market of Perfumes and Cosmetics Russia

Presented in the final qualifying work examines such economic phenomenon as a parallel import. The aim of this study is to assess the price effects of parallel imports in the context of changing the principle of exhaustion of rights. During the work the author analyzes the theoretical foundations of parallel imports, which constitute an analysis of the causes of economic phenomena, the scope and ways of its distribution, the analysis of foreign experience of application of various types of principles of exhaustion of rights for patents, as well as legislative analysis in the area of regulation of parallel imports in Russia, perspectives of transition to the international principle of exhaustion of rights, i.e. the liberalization of parallel imports in the country and analysis of possible consequences for Russia. In the past the theoretical foundations of the study presents the empirical analysis, which examines the prevalence of parallel imports in Russia and estimated price effects of the investigated phenomena using statistical and econometric analysis methods on the example of the market of perfumery and cosmetics. Analysis of the impact of the scale of parallel imports and price dynamics is carried out using statistical analysis methods. The impact of parallel imports on prices of the products are analyzed by constructing and evaluating models of linear regressions between time series and panel data generalized least squares method (OLS). Completed work carries practical relevance, as the study was conducted on real data, the customs database for foreign economic activities of the Russian Federation (VED) for the 2004 and 2011 In the analysis were involved 4198128 units of perfume and cosmetic goods that have been imported into the country during the analyzed time periods. A sufficient number of observations allows the representative to reflect the results of the empirical analysis.
