The Influence of Personal Qualities of Top Management, CEOs and BoD on Stock Returns of Companies

Chief Executive Officers (CEO) are the most important heads of the companies. They have wider terms of reference and can affect firm performance and market value of company in the most powerful way. This study estimates the influence of CEO’s characteristics on company’s stock returns. The effect for the entire tenure and the effect for the first year after succession are investigated. Based on the construction of multivariate regression models, this study finds that there are major influence of CEO’s age, tenure, marital status and prior experience on government service. In terms of executive’s characteristics there are no relationship for gender, nationality, educational level and stock share with company’s stock returns.
