Countering International Terrorism

This graduate paper is aimed at considering criminal aspect of international terrorism and the review of Russian and international law in the sphere of countering terrorism. The main purposes of this work are: 1) to determine the definition of international terrorism; 2) to explore the criminal aspects of terrorism and international terrorism; 3) to identify the advantages and disadvantages of the anti-terrorist law in Russia; 4) to research the main international acts about countering terrorism that were ratified in Russian Federation; 5) to analyze the subjects of countering terrorism in Russia and the basic measures which are taken in Russia in the field of counter-terrorism, including international terrorism. The paper consists of an introduction, three chapters, six paragraphs, a conclusion and a bibliography. Based on this research the following conclusions were made: firstly, there is no single concept of international terrorism all over the world; secondly, the development of this definition is a very difficult task; thirdly, the article 361 of the Criminal Code of Russia is not an adaptation of the article 205 of the Criminal Code including international element, it is more separate and complex construction; fourthly, the present edition of the article 361 of the Criminal Code is not applicable in practice; fifthly, for improving the law in the sphere of countering international terrorism some changes in the text of the article 361 of the Criminal Code should be made.
