Coaching as a Career Counseling Tool

This research is dedicated to study of coaching influence on an improvement of operational efficiency of work with clients. A working process of “Center of business and career development” employees has been analyzed along this research. The problem statement of research is insufficient in-depth study of the advisory motives of clients’ requests during the consultation process. The main hypothesis of the research is that an implementation of coaching methods into the practice of career consultants will make their interaction with clients more efficient, will help to achieve more specific and measurable results faster, and also will increase the level of customer satisfaction. The final goal of this method is a development of action-oriented recommendations for an application of coaching methods in career counseling. This research includes a detailed description of the implementation methodology. Milestones of the process are (1) analysis of the accumulated experience of working with clients, (2) revealing the signs of fictitious clients’ requests, (3) their typology by describing behavioral characteristics of applicants, (4) work with cases, (5) modeling of typical working situations with clients. Results: the implementation of coaching methods into the practice of career consultants allowed to continue working with clients without changing an official format. Timeframes of work with fictitious clients’ requests went down from 1,5-2 months to 2-3 counseling meetings. The number of negative feedbacks from clients arising while the working process decreased by 60-70%. In general, the implementation of coaching methods into the practice of career counseling has improved the personal effectiveness of each consultant and the overall performance of the company.
