The investigation offers a detailed examination of ‘tacitism’ as an influential political and intellectual current of the 16th–18th centuries. In the beginning of the 18th century in Russia began to appear political writings, which refer to popular in Europe in the 16th–17th centuries conceptions of ‘reason of state’ and tacitism. This examination contains the in-depth analysis of the “News-sheet from Parnassus” (1613), the most authoritative work by an Italian satirist Trajano Boccalini (1556–1613). The study principally concentrates on the Russian translation of Boccalini’s work and its impact on Russian political thought in the first half of the 18th century. The attachment includes an extract from A. Vasiliev’s Russian translation of the “News-sheet from Parnassus” (1728).
