Today’s an objective assessment of students’ knowledge is likely to be one of the most important issue in the educational sphere. Existing forms of knowledge assessment have both advantages and disadvantages, therefore, it is necessary to create an effective knowledge assessment tool that combines only the advantages of different forms of knowledge assessment. The purpose of this work is to create a methodology for constructing a system of test and measurement materials based on combining different forms of knowledge assessment to identify latent knowledge of students. The proposed methodology is carried out in two steps, during which the examination tasks are corrected in accordance with specially developed ideas about the professional competencies required for students of a particular course. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that the proposed methodology can be useful for improving the pedagogical assessment tool. As the results showed, dividing one more general question into several narrow ones, which measure the understanding and students’ skills, really works. For further research in this area, the goal may be to carry out more than two stages of correction of the examination questions on the proposed methodology and carrying out a thorough analysis and improvement of tasks using the methodological recommendations described in this work.
