The study of nutrition practices in this paper is considered as an indicator of adaptation of first-year students in Moscow universities living in dormitories. In adapting to the new environment, there is a change in ideas about those nutrition practices that were followed in the family, and which should be adhered in new realities. In order to identify the mechanisms for the formation of nutrition practices which students entered an independent life, there were analyzed two stages of the life of young people : before moving to Moscow and after moving. 15 interviews with first-year students were collected during the study. In the process of analyzing these interviews, it was revealed that nutrition, being the priority of people's need, really helps in revealing the topic of adaptation. The presented results show what difficulties students encountered with, when they move to dormitory and how they coped with them during process of adaptation to the new environment.
