The Olympic Games as a Political Project: Cases of Sochi-2014 and Rio-2016

This research is devoted to the analysis of the Olympic Games as a political project aimed at solving political problems. On the basis of the marketing approach, an analytical model of the political project is developed that allows to reveal the mechanism for setting and implementing political tasks by the host country. The Olympic Games in Sochi in 2014 and Rio de Janeiro in 2016 were selected as cases. As a result of the study, it was revealed that in Russia and Brazil, the Olympics were aimed at consolidating certain segments of society and shaping the image of a modern and successful state. The implementation of political tasks in both states was significantly influenced by the features of the political regime and the actions of social forces.
