This graduation paper is devoted to the study of civic and patriotic education as one of the priority directions of the Russian education system. Large financial, administrative, information and educational resources were spent on the implementation of four state programs "Patriotic Education of Citizens of the Russian Federation for 2001-2005 / 2006-2010 / 2011-2015 / 2016-2020". The significance of the formation of civic and patriotic consciousness of youth is emphasized in the policy of the government aimed at turning patriotism into a national idea of Russia. Despite the directed resources and efforts made by the state to increase the level of citizenship and patriotism among young people, according to the polls the modern young generation is apolitical, and is not determined to actively show its civic position. The objective of the study is to identify the character and direction of civic and patriotic education in the school, because it is assumed that school perception and the teaching of patriotic attitudes affect the formation of the civic stand of young people. The empirical base of the study was provided by 15 in-depth interviews with Moscow teachers and 3 focus groups with Moscow high school students. As a result of the analysis of the data obtained, the attitudes of teachers and their students about patriotism, patriots and citizens of the country, their attitude to elections, as well as forms of curricular and extracurricular activities in the civic and patriotic education were identified and compared.
