Year of Graduation: 2017

To start with, as a topic for my research I have chosen the oeuvre of Joris- Karl Huysmans in Russia, his receptions and translations. Huysmans significantly contributed in development of French literature of XIX-XX centuries, but I find his work researched insufficiently. That is the reason why I consider the topic for my exploration urgent. Initially Joris- Karl was an apprentice of Emile Zola and therefore represented the naturalism. This period is associated with strong influence on Russian naturalists, for instance, Ivan Turgenev. In 1884 Huysmans published the novel “Á rebours”, which is reputed as a manifesto of European decadence of the end of XIX century. During this spell his oeuvre affected Russian symbolists. Nevertheless, Huysmans was a popular author in Russia, one of the consequences of Bolshevik Revolution was the prohibition of publishing and spreading Joris- Karl works., which was removed only in 1970s. Overall, my research will consist of 2 parts: perception of Huysmans in Russia and Translation Huysmans’ works in Russian.
