Representation of Victor Hugo's Novelistic Heritage in the Modern Media Context (Illustrated by 'Notre Dame de Paris' and 'Les Miserables')

A study undertaken sought to reveal the outstanding features of the potential cinema audience, analyze Victor Hugo’s stereotypical images and their perception by viewers in the context of media representation. Also the study identifies specific features of target audience of the musical ‘Les Miserables’, the influence exerted by the media product and methods which were applied by authors of the musical in order to create a marketable representation of the novel in media. The study considers how theory of representation allows to investigate motives and methods of media creators, and also how various interpretations adopted by media can affect target audience. Research output is being achieved through cultural analysis of the both Victor Hugo’s novels ‘Les Miserables’ and ‘Notre Dame de Paris’.
