Prospects for Robotized Media Content Production: a Foresight Study

Student: Kleshcheva Evgeniya

Supervisor: Ilya Kiriya

Faculty: Faculty of Creative Industries

Educational Programme: Media Management (Master)

Final Grade: 9

Year of Graduation: 2018

The study was aimed at determining trends in automation of media content creation. We analyzed scientific literature, media materials, reports and forecasts of researchers and professional organizations. To identify opportunities, prospects of the technologies as well as risks and limitations we conducted expert interviews and a survey. We also implemented SWOT-analysis and scenario writing to present and illustrate the results. Foresight usually involves periodic study and active communication between stakeholders. This research could become the first step in complete Foresight. Here we determined that video and film production is the most susceptible to automation, some aspects of these will be fully robotized. At the same time, quality algorithmic creation of text is not going to be achieved to a significant extent. Software can be used in routine and formalizable tasks, aid in investigations and content enhancement. AR/VR and chat-bots/smart personal assistants are important media technologies that could significantly modify content creation and distribution processes.
