The main theme of my research is «Avant-garde in theatre and costume». It's focused on studying the history and unique spirit of russian theatre in 1920s through visial presentation of scetches and costume layouts. In our days lots of people, especially youth, are really skeptical about theatre. They prefer watching a movie in cinema, rather then going for a spectacle. But they don't know, that emotions of seeing a live performance, live play, are so much stronger, then watching a movie. Only theatre can give its audience the feeling of live action, «live art». And that's the reason, why performing arts should never be forgiven. 1920s were one of the most unique and vivid for russian theatre, and avant-garde was the reason. Main feature of the theatre was the desire to transform the viewer and world around him. People are getting interested in rallies, mass spectacles. Spectacles are not just authors interpretation any more, they are made by all participants. «Todays spectator — tomorrows show actor» V. Meyerhold, famous theatre director, said. Avant-garde theatre task was to organize, not to create life, while also trying to make it modern for the viewers, through the use of movable installations and, in some cases, denying the meaning, brought by the literature to the play. Thus, the result of my study is a clear vision of avant-garde period in russian theatre. It was rhythmic, high raced, which was shown not only by actors, but also in installations. Original costumes (multi-layered or simple ones), attention to details in materials (using of metal and wood in decorating), and brilliant art design held viewers attention up until the end of the play.
