The problem of research is focused on the question: can fashion speak with art on an equal footing? For comparison of the two spheres, a separate type of accessories was chosen - hats. At first glance, not an obvious connection of the object with the sphere of art allows us to identify the most controversial examples for analysis, which in turn will create the ground for reflection. The study consists of two stages, the first - the study of the texts of authors who consider the phenomenon of fashion in the context of art. The second analysis of images of two types: headdresses from the art world and examples of headdresses from the fashion industry. The research task is to find out how these two spheres approach the creation of an object, whatever they give them. Understand whether there is a single system of criteria by which the object can be assessed. Of course between fashion and art there are common ground. Their similarity is based on the fact that they are part of a single, large cultural process where the artist's painting can inspire the designer clothes and vice versa. Despite this, their approaches are different. Most often, fashion objects are marginal. Contrary to this, there are borderline examples. To analyze examples of this type, works of fashion begin to analyze by methods of artistic criticism. Once this happens, the optics of the research changes, which allows you to determine the value of the object in a different context. Because, the first works that raise the question of whether the fashion can be art, only at the beginning of the last century, a methodology on this topic has not yet been formed. It is necessary to conduct research simultaneously with the parties in the history of the arts and on the part of fashion theory.
