Factor Affecting the Choice of Residence by Ethnic Migrants

The aim of the research paper is to find the main factors which have the effect on the choice of residence by ethnic migrants in Saint-Petersburg, to understand is there a threat of ethnic segregation of urban space in Saint-Petersburg. Ethnic migrants are perceived by native people of the country as diverse. This is qualitative research, the analysis is based on the 14 interviews, which was taken from ethnic migrants who work and live in Saint-Petersburg. The paper contains the comparison of the reasons and mechanisms which lead to the formation of ethnic enclaves in American and European cities. Also, it describes the modern migration environment and spatial segregation in Russian cities. This research is the continuation of the research paper at the same topic which was written last year, so this work contains the comparison of the last year and new results. Based on the study three main factors were found which affecting the choice of residence by ethnic migrants in Saint-Petersburg. Also, the paper contains the comparison of male and female migration strategies and the attempt to answer the questions whether the threatens of ghettoization exists in Saint-Petersburg and whether the ethnic segregation exists in Saint-Petersburg.
