This work explores the images of the Russian man in British literature on the example of the works of three authors of XIX-XXI centuries: the poem by Robert Browning “Ivan Ivanovitch”, the novel by Michael Frayn “The Russian Interpreter” and the novel by Andrew Miller “Snowdrops”. The study examines the evolution of the stereotype of Russians in British publicistic and artistic literature, identifies the stereotypical features of the image of the Russian man, and concludes how the image of the Russian man corresponds to the stereotype in each of the three works (“Ivan Ivanovitch” by R. Browning, “The Russian Interpreter” by M. Frayn, “Snowdrops” by A. Miller). The work consists of an introduction, four chapters, conclusion and reference list. The introduction contains a general characteristic of the study, the definition of goals and objectives, a review of the literature, the determination of the relevance and novelty of the study. The main part presents the study itself. In the first chapter it is a brief study of the formation of the image of the Russian man as part of the image of Russia as a whole in the British publicistic and artistic literature throughout the Russian-British relations. The second chapter is devoted to the study of the specifics of the construction of the image of the Russian man in Robert Browning’s poem “Ivan Ivanovitch”. The third chapter analyzes the image of the Russian man in Michael Frayn’s novel “The Russian Interpreter”.
