The author of this work attempted to study the characteristics of the Russian media system, the generalized attitude of the Russian state and semi-state media to the personality of 45 US President Donald Trump and prove the existence of a purposeful design of Trump's positive image in the Russian media space. The use of media for purposeful design and change of the image of a phenomenon is rarely seen by scholars studying international relations as an important tool of domestic and foreign policy. Our study lies at the crossroads of international relations and the theory of media communications and concerns the study of building a media image of an individual as an element of managing public opinion, including from the point of view of IR. For effective research, the author reviewed the history and theory of media image creation, its design in modern media, and the main mechanisms of media influence on human perception. In addition, the author studied the peculiarities of the Russian media system, its characteristics and their influence on the possibility of purposeful construction of media images, and also introduced the term “patastatal media” as a feature of the Russian media system. Nevertheless, the task of studying the generalized attitude of the Russian state and parastatal media to the personality of 45 US President Donald Trump and finding the proof of the existence of a purposeful construction of Trump's positive image in the Russian media space was not fulfilled.
