English Lexemes Constituting the Semantic Field "Politics/Policy" in the Russian Translations of the 'House of Cards' TV Series

Contemporary political language studies focus primarily on actual speeches, mostly of a particular politician. The political discourse of media has hitherto been overlooked. In contrast, this research aims to analyze the political language of the TV series. Based on the House of Cards series scripts, a model of “Politics and Policy” semantic field in both English and Russian is created. The research also looks into the process of audiovisual translation, particularly, the translation of English political terms into Russian. It has been demonstrated that "Politics and Policy" semantic field does exist in English and Russian. Different methods of translation were recognized and classified. In conclusion, the results are used to give advice to the translators of suchlike texts. Keywords: translation, semantics, semantic field, politics, policy, political language, TV series
