Evaluation of Investment Policy of the Russian Grocery Retail

This final qualifying paper is devoted to assessing the effectiveness of the investment policy of the Russian grocery retail. The current economic conditions associated with the political events of 2014 - sanctions and retaliatory embargo, changed the state of the grocery retail market. In the behavior of consumers and the networks themselves there have been changes, which makes the topic relevant. The main objective of the thesis is to develop a comprehensive assessment of the investment policy of the Russian grocery retail. Tasks that the author faced: 1) To review the research on this topic; 2) To study the market of food retail in Russia; 3) To generate a database by company; 4) To analyze the indicators of financial activity of companies; 5) To conduct an econometric analysis in order to identify the most significant factors affecting the investment policy of companies; 6)To justify the conclusions. In the practical part of the study, financial profitability and turnover ratios are analyzed of 93 companies for the period from 2013 to 2017. and an econometric analysis of the dependency of the return on investment from net profit, debt ratios, current liquidity ratios, age of the company, the existence of the Internet platform, food delivery, own production and retail outlets outside the Russian Federation, GDP and interest rate. During the study, 4 out of 6 hypotheses posed by the author were confirmed. The results of this study can be used both by managers of grocery chains and their counterparties, as well as investors who are interested in investing in grocery retail.
