The Specifics of Rendering Emphatic Constructions from English into Russian

This paper explores the translation (or rendering) or emphatic constructions from the English language into Russian, based on texts published online (Internet) chosen by the method of continuous sampling. The aim of this paper lies in the identification and the description of the characteristics of the translation of emphatic constructions from English into Russian. The relevance of this research stems from the necessity of studying the process of rendering the ways in which emotional expression is conceived through language. In the process of research, our main objectives were the following: to analyze the existing research dedicated to the main object of our research, define the terms emphasis and emphatic constructions, to conduct a comparative analyses of original and translated texts based on the criteria of representativeness, to identify the main translational transformations that occur in translating emphatic constructions. In the course of this research, several translation and linguistic manuals that touch the subject of emphatic constructions were analyzed.Previous research and guidebooks by Russian scholars, cited in the paper which suggest ways in which to translate emphatic constructions. This paper examines translated texts, in relation to existing traditions in translating emphatic sentences, as well as to the guidelines of a prominent Russian translation theorist S. V. Tyulenev and his notion of representativeness. Finally, original and translated texts from such publications as Euronews, DW and Voice of America were chosen as main subjects for our conducted analysis. This paper may be of great interest to practicing translators and translation theorists, as well as teachers and students alike. The information given in this research can be used for further expanding the line of research of translation in general.
