In the present work, the concepts of “motivation” and “motive” are explored in the works of domestic and foreign researchers in the field of pedagogy and psychology. Special attention is paid to the analysis of educational motivation and methods of its formation. The paper analyzes and systematizes the actual problems of teaching geography at school and in the classroom. One of the results of the study is the revealed link between the decline in interest and academic performance of schoolchildren in geography and the discrepancy between the traditional model of education in geography lessons and the expectations of modern schoolchildren. One of the ways to increase the motivation to study geography is considered the integration of educational games into the educational process. The purpose of the dissertation project was the creation of a mobile learning game for studying the topic “Topographic map and topographic plan”, the development of teaching materials for conducting lessons using it and testing sixth graders in secondary education schools on three control groups. The results of testing demonstrate the increasing interest in the study of this topic by schoolchildren and positive feedback from teachers. Keywords: motive, motivation, learning motivation, geography, mobile learning game.
