Traditional culture has recently aroused considerable interest among media producers. One of the most vivid examples in contemporary animation is the TV-show Mountain of Gems, which is based on the fairy tales of the peoples of Russia. The present study aims to describe the transformation of a text into the plot and its visual representation. For this purpose 73 episodes of the show will be analyzed by the methods of comparative, narrative, aesthetic and linguistic analyses. We anticipate that creators of Mountain of Gems reduce the amount of violence common in folk tales and adapt tales in accordance with the principles of screenwriting. The theoretical contribution of the study is the introduction of the new object to the research field, and the results may be of use to content creators who want to adapt the folklore to the perception of today’s audience.
