Event tourism is becoming more and more popular largely due to globalization, attracting many tourists to countries and regions that are often not recognized as traditional tourist destinations. At the same time, the main goals in organizing event tourism are, as a rule, pursuing economic growth, in particular, attracting capital to the region, reducing unemployment, creating new jobs, increasing GDP, strengthening the regional economic position, developing infrastructure and improving the investment climate. This study is devoted to the impact of event tourism on the development of regional economies on the example of a large-scale international event that took place on the territory of 11 regions of Russia in 2018 - World Cup 2018. In this paper, we will analyze the preparation, costs and impact of the event on the development of the economy and tourism in the regions of Russia. Considering the recent 2018 World Cup, at the time of writing, there are only scattered analytical and statistical data on this issue, without a systematic analysis of the impact of 2019 World Cup tourism on the economic situation of the organizing regions in Russia, which determines interest in this study. The practical significance of this final qualifying work is the possibility of introducing the results of the study into the basis of programs aimed at developing tourism in the regions of Russia. The results obtained in the course of the research can be used by regional and municipal authorities in the development of policy documents related to the development of event tourism.
