Developing Sociocultural Competence Based on the Use of a Fairy Tale

Nowadays people need to know more cultural features of different countries to communicate effectively. At the same time we can claim that the source of a national culture and traditions is a folk tale. This article concentrates on the use of fairy tales as an effective tool for the elementary sociocultural competence (SCC) formation. The study focuses on the thorough examination of the elementary SCC and scrutinize the effect of using tales in terms of SCC. Based on the reviewed theory, the analysis of particular course books was conducted, the set of fairy tales were elected that were complemented with exercises focused on the SCC development. The implementation of this tales should increase the students’ motivation and interest for culture of other countries. Moreover, they will give a chance to students to get acquainted with basic cultural elements of countries of target languages and their own country.
