The present work is aimed at clarifying the time for establishment of an equilibrium, Maxwell distribution in the region of velocities being larger than thermal. A computational model of molecular dynamics based on Lennard-Jones potential with periodic boundary conditions is considered. The correctness of the work has been verified by fulfilling the condition for the conservation of total energy, and the conformity of the velocity distribution in the equilibrium state to Maxwell has been certified. The moments of velocity are studied to determine the nature of the system relaxation. The exponential approximating functions are introduced, which the dependences of the relative differences of the experimental and theoretical values of the moments obey. The dependence of the approximating function parameters on the order of moments is analyzed. An increase of relaxation time from an increase of an order of the moment has been studied.

Student Theses at HSE must be completed in accordance with the University Rules and regulations specified by each educational programme.

Summaries of all theses must be published and made freely available on the HSE website.

The full text of a thesis can be published in open access on the HSE website only if the authoring student (copyright holder) agrees, or, if the thesis was written by a team of students, if all the co-authors (copyright holders) agree. After a thesis is published on the HSE website, it obtains the status of an online publication.

Student theses are objects of copyright and their use is subject to limitations in accordance with the Russian Federation’s law on intellectual property.

In the event that a thesis is quoted or otherwise used, reference to the author’s name and the source of quotation is required.
