Strategies of Internationalization of the Regional University in the East of Russia (the Case of Irkutsk State University)

Based on the study of a wide range of sources and literature, the analysis of the characteristics of the regional university entering the international education market is presented. Various internationalization strategies inherent to European, Asian and Russian universities are considered taking into account such an aspect as “regionalism”. The factors, opportunities and barriers that determine the choice of a strategy for a regional university to enter the international education market are outlined. A brief review of the recommendations for solving the problem of promoting the university in the international education market is made.
