Means of Expressing Orders and Requests in English and German (Semantic and Functional Aspects)

The presented research refers to the means of expressing requests and orders using the examples from fiction. Linguists always pay a lot of attention to the semantic and functional areas of language, especially the one that are connected with the impact on communicative act. Despite the fact that there are many studies on this topic, the novelty of my work consists in comparison of the two languages at semantic and functional level and find out the difference in the construction of grammar. The purpose of the work is to discover and study common and distinctive features of expression forms and the degree of politeness in each of the presented languages. In the course of doing this research, a comparative analysis of the English and German languages was carried out in order to identify both differences and similarities in the units of speech etiquette of the thematic group. The theoretical and empirical methods were used to analyze means of expressing orders and requests in both languages, as well as inductive-deductive and descriptive methods were implied to generalize the material. The results of the research are suggested to contribute to the further study of the means of expressing orders and requests.
