Globalization has provided new opportunities for academic mobility, such as exchange programmes, leading to internationalization. Thus, the foundation of academic environment is changing, resulting in emergence of multicultural academic groups. The thesis focuses on the problem of university teacher professional communication in a multicultural group context. Due to teaching methodology lacking well-described techniques teachers could rely on when working with a multicultural group of students, the gap between teacher professional communication skills and the requirements of communicating in a multicultural environment at university is emerging. In order to determine crucial skills for efficient intercultural communication, this research paper explores five communication theories applicable to intercultural academic group settings as well as the peculiarities of intercultural communication. Prevalent teaching principles instructed at Russian pedagogical universities are also examined. The outcomes include the matrix of teacher professional communication knowledge and skills and a model of training session on Teacher professional communication that could help avoid possible miscommunications and conflicts in the intercultural academic environment.
