Developing First Year Students’ Crosscultural Communicative Competence by Means of the Elective Course

The issue of a successful integrating cultural components in the process of teaching foreign languages has been relevant for researchers for a long time. By the time of graduation, the student should be able to correctly operate the information, organize it and continuously develop his skills, freely navigate in the system of universal human values, as well as understand the value system of both Russian and foreign societies, be able to respectfully interpret the values of a foreign culture, be tolerant towards foreign traditions, master the skills of socio-and intercultural communication. The focus of our research is students-linguists of a language university, whose effective work is based on successful communication in a situation of real intercultural dialogue. To achieve this aim, it is necessary to form and develop intercultural communicative competence, which is the main goal of the intercultural approach. The object of our research is the process of developing intercultural communicative competence. The subject of the study is the methodology of intercultural communicative competence development of the first-year students by means of the elective course. The main goal of the work is to theoretically substantiate the designing of a methodology for the development of the intercultural communicative competence. This study is dedicated to the development of first-year students’ intercultural communicative competence, which is based on the knowledge, skills, attitudes of students and the ability to manifest empathy, tolerance, citizenship in the course of perception, awareness and interpretation of a different culture in interaction with the native. An effective means of creating intercultural communicative competence of students is video, the advantages of which can be explained by a two-channel effect on the perception of information by a person, which motivates students, provides focus, autonomy, and involvement in the learning process. The peculiarity of using video in an intercultural approach is the use of videos in the native and foreign languages, which provides a deeper perception, interpretation, and rethinking of information that has intercultural significance of the content. Our study is dedicated to the development of technology for the formation of intercultural communicative competence of first-year students in an elective video course using video in a language university.
