For my thesis I chose the topic "The introduction of the theory of alternative media in modern multimedia sphere. The relevance of this topic is confirmed by what is happening in the world now, as in the modern world there is a large number of controversial and resonant events that need to be covered from all sides. Alternative media allows people to draw their own conclusions instead of imposing a certain point of view. In my research I will look at the Alexei Navalny poisoning case, its investigation and conversation with the "poisoner", how this story has been presented by alternative and mainstream media, what methods of manipulation have been used. I will compare how the alternative and mainstream media have covered the case of Alexei Navalny, and I want to pay attention to what propaganda theories (Lasswell and others) and ways of manipulating public opinion have been involved. This paper consists of three main chapters and several paragraphs. In the first chapter, titled "Manipulation of public opinion through the Media," we will examine the main ways of manipulating public opinion, the main theories of manipulation, and then apply this data to a case study. In the second chapter of the study, titled "Alternative Media: it's history and current situation," we will examine the history of alternative media during high-profile events, using the Spanish Civil War and the Clinton-Lewinski case as examples, and explore how they work today and how new media differ from traditional media. Also in this chapter, we will look at several tables that will help us compare alternative and mainstream media, as well as determine how new media and traditional media differ. In the third chapter, we will examine the case of the "poisoning" of Alexei Navalny as one of the most high-profile events in 2020-2021, compare how it was covered by alternative and mainstream media, examine the ways in which social media were manipulated and apply the data we examined in the first chapter. In this chapter, we look at the tables and data from MediaLogy to examine in detail which manipulation techniques were used and how, and to compare how alternative and mainstream media described this case study.
