Year of Graduation: 2021

The Sino-US relations have been escalating at a dizzying pace during the last decade and reached the lowest point after the inauguration of President Donald Trump. The regional territorial dispute in the South China Sea between China and Vietnam, then between China and ASEAN states seems to fade into the background, and got a new dimension – defensive security line of the United States against the PRC, while the instruments for keeping the situation in a manageable state are being used within the previous dimension. The increased tensions in the South China Sea in the current decade were the result of the reversal of the USA in the Asia-Pacific region and the proclaimed anti-Chinese strategy that turned the United States into one of the most active players. “Free and Open Indo-Pacific” strategy and related to it integration initiatives in Asia are considered to be a counterbalance to China's mega-strategy “Belt and Road Initiative” . Key words: Free and Open Indo-Pacific; PRC; USA; SCS; South China Sea; Belt and Road Initiative; Asia-Pacific region; BRI; FOIP; Southeast Asia.
