Self-Designed Student Book as Way of Implementing TBL (High School, English Language)

The issue of enhancing students’ motivation has become a hot topic recently. We are sure that in a fast-paced learning environment pupils should be the centre of the class to prove themselves in the academic sphere later. Russian schools’ TEFL curriculum is developed on the basis of Grammar-Translation approach, which has been evidenced not to put communicative competence into consideration. Thus, if we want our graduates to be high-level specialists worldwide, we have to assume certain changes. This study presumes TBL to be the best tool for increasing high school students’ motivation. The paper aims to prove this hypothesis by designing and implementing a TBL-based coursebook in the EFL curriculum. With this goal in mind, the research group uses such methods as content analysis of selected materials for student book design, questionnaire, and an experiment to test the effectiveness of the created TBL-based course unit. Having ascertained the absence of TBL-based materials during last year’s research, we assume the results of the work to solve the lack of modern resources for B2 schoolers problem and start a TBL-focused course development to substitute grammar-translation approach at schools in near future.
