In the course of the study, it was found that for many years of the existence of medicines, there was a problem of using substandard and counterfeit medicines. Humanity has used various methods and methods to combat non-original, counterfeit drugs. This problem existed not only in the history of Russia, but throughout the world. Over the course of time, the struggle was waged with varying success, but we can say that the market for substandard drugs as a whole only grew. More civilized states introduced and toughened sanctions for the manufacture, sale and use of such drugs, but the effectiveness of these implementations was low. In the course of our work, we showed the history of the emergence of the institution of labeling, the first legal acts, attempts to take control of the movement of medicines in the world from manufacturer to consumer. The issues of the need to introduce a system of labeling of medicines, the history of the appearance and development of labeling have been studied.
