Translating Language Realia from English into Russian in Audiovisual Translation: a Case of the Bing Bang Theory Series (Season 7, Episode 9)

The present research explores particular features related with language realia in audiovisual translation using the example of ‘The Big Bang Theory’ series. The present study is a meta-analysis of vast body of literature related to language realia and audiovisual translation. The definitions of language realia and audiovisual translation were identified and classified, together with strategies for audiovisual translation. On the basis of the present meta-analysis, the language realia of the highest frequency were analyzed on the example of strategies applied by two studios in translation of ‘The Big Bang Theory’ series. The present research is believed to contribute to the expansion of non-equivalent vocabulary and audiovisual translation studies. Key words: non-equivalent vocabulary, language realia, audiovisual translation.
