The relevance of forming of project managers' competencies with specializations in Big Data topic lies in a number of factors: the use of Big data is being used more widely, solves a huge range of issues. At the same time, a significant increase in demand for such specialists is recorded in the labor market. The scientific problem is the lack of development, the complexity of forming a successful educational program for project managers in new areas of scientific and technological development, in particular, Big data. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the characteristics of the labor market for project managers specializing in Big Data in Russia and the United States and, on this basis, to develop practical recommendations for project management-related Russian market participants (project managers, higher education institutions, companies and employers associated with project management). For this purpose, frequency analysis, qualitative content analysis and questionnaires were used. In the first chapter, the concepts of competencies, competencies of project managers were described and studied, the already relevant researches were analyzed. ICB IPMA is chosen as the basic standard for the analysis of project managers' competencies. A study of the requirements of employers in Russia and the United States to applicants was conducted, the search, collection, systematization and analysis of job offers located in the public domain on job search platforms, i.e., frequency analysis. Based on the mentioned job advertisements an attempt was made to interpret the results, the most frequently specified competences of project managers were highlighted. In the third chapter, general recommendations were made for the development of the competencies of project managers with a specialization in Big Data, as well as within the educational system. The results of this work can be useful both for project managers with a specialization in Big Data, for their employers, companies associated with them, and higher education institutions that design such education programmes.
