Recognizing irony in someone's speech is often a challenging task. In oral communication, this problem is solved with the help of prosodic and paralinguistic features of speech. However, normative written language does not have such a set of comparatively obvious markers of irony. The main goal of the research is to study the effectiveness of using graphic markers to solve the problem of automatic irony recognition and to carry out a comparative analysis of the work of classification models based on them. The paper provides an overview of graphic markers of irony used in informal written communication and their features in comparison with other types of markers. Two experimental studies on the recognition and generation of irony by native Russian speakers are described. Also various methods for automatic irony recognition and the ways to use a variety of markers for this task are discussed.
